Oxford Open Doors: Sheldonian Theatre

Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the Grade 1 listed Sheldonian Theatre is the University of Oxford’s ceremonial hall and a popular event and concert venue. On Sunday 15th only, you will have the opportunity to explore this stunning building for free.

Visit us to enjoy a spectacular 360˚ view of Oxford from the Cupola, marvel at the ornate auditorium, and for families search for our hidden wrens amongst the Emperor’s Heads and throughout the theatre.

For this special event, we are offering drop-in first-come-first-served tours throughout the day, and musical performances by Amici della Voce and Pavlova Wind Quintet. You will also have the opportunity to hear more about the building and Oxford Preservation Trust with a speech from Oxford Preservation Trust CEO Anna Eavis.

Please note that there are 114 steps between the ground floor and the Cupola, we regret that as the building was designed in 1669 there is no lift available.
