Lighting up the Sheldonian for LGBT+ History Month

LGBT+ community members and allies fly the flag worldwide to symbolise pride.

Created by Gilbert Baker, designer and political activist, rainbow flags were first used in 1978 at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade. Gilbert’s legacy lives on.

In honour of LGBT+ History month, by day you will see Oxford’s iconic skyline complemented with a splash of rainbow colours on three window panes of the Sheldonian cupola. At night, look up to the shining beacon lighting the way in the February night.
